How do I request books and articles the RUC Library does not own?

Answer

All RUC patrons are able to request books and other materials from the Radford main campus library in Radford, VA.

However, if the item is something that is not owned by either the RUC Library or the main campus library, you can still request access via our library’s interlibrary loan software called ILLIAD. This service is provided free of charge.

Getting a Book or Article the Library Doesn't Own (Interlibrary Loan)

1. Want a book or article that the library doesn’t have.

Note: If you see a "Request through Interlibrary Loan" button, we don’t have that book or article.

2. Make an interlibrary loan (or ILL) request by visiting https://illiad.radford.edu/RemoteAuth/. Log in to ILLIAD, the program the Radford Libraries use for ILL,using your radford.edu email username and password.
Note: You will be asked to fill out a personal information form the first time you use ILLIAD.

3. Enter the details for the book or article on the request form (and if ILLIAD has auto-filled some of these details, confirm that they are correct). Tell us when you need the item by filling in the “Not Wanted After Date” box. Let us know any other requirements or limits. And if this is a physical item (such as a book), use the drop-down menu to select a pickup location.

4. Wait for an email to your radford.edu account telling you that your item is ready and how to access it or pick it up.

Need help? Email ill@radford.edu or ask a librarian for more information. While requests are processed promptly, the time you’ll wait depends on many things outside the RU Libraries' control, such as how quickly the other library responds and possible shipping delays.
