Q. In MLA 9, how do I cite a chapter, essay, or story in a book (such as an anthology) when each section is written by a different author?

• If each section (chapter, essay, story) of the book has a different author, you will want to use the example for Essay or Chapter in an Edited Book.
• If you are citing a book chapter that does not have its own author, select the relevant example for an entire book.
