The Radford University Libraries have full access to the New York Times. This includes full access to NYTimes.com and on the NYTimes.com smartphone apps.

To access class readings: 

  1. Make sure that you have set-up an account using the instructions below.

  2. Make sure that you access the New York Times Academic pass link in the Radford University Libraries A-Z Databases list before trying to access a reading link. If you see a message that you are out of free articles and need to buy a subscription it means that you need to go through the link above to be recognized as an RU student, faculty or staff.

  3. Access the reading link.

New Users: 

  1. Access the New York Times Academic pass link in the Radford University Libraries A to Z Databases list

  2. At the "Welcome to the New York Times" screen, click the blue "Create Account" button.

  3. Enter your Radford University email address. Click "Continue."

  4. Create a password to use.

  5. Click "Create Account".

Existing Account Holders: 

  1. Either go directly to nytimes.com to login, or use the Academic Pass link, then click the "Log In Here" link under the blue "Create Account" button.

  2. Enter your Radford University email and the password you created, then click "Log In."

How long will I have access directly through the NYT website?

Once registered, faculty/staff will have at least until July 2026 with full account access. Students will have access at least until July 2026, or 12/31 of the graduation year they choose. Faculty/staff and students who set up their accounts prior to July 2025 may need to re-authenticate by visiting accessnyt.com.

What does the New York Times Academic Pass include?

This subscription includes unlimited access to the NYT archives on the NYTimes.com website or app for the years 1851 through 1922 and from 1981 to the present day  For the years 1923 through 1980, however, access is limited to 5 article views per person per day. We have that unlimited content for those years through ProQuest's New York Times Historical Newspaper (1851-three years back).

The New York Times Academic Pass does not include access to NYT games, crosswords, e-reader editions of the newspaper, recipes, or Times Premier content.
