How do I cite an advance online publication that does not have a volume or issue number in APA 7?

Answer

  • In place of the volume and issue number type in Advance online publication. This text goes after the journal title and before the doi, if the doi is available.
  • An Indication that an article might be an advanced publication is the lack of a volume number. In this case look to see if you can find evidence that it’s an advanced publication by looking for mention of early view, early access or ahead of print in the database where you found it or on the publisher's site.
